In January 1989 the Leipzig Indie band THE REAL DEAL played their first concert in Berlin. The performance was in the movie theater club ,,Gerard Philipe\u201d on Karl-Kunger-Stra\u00dfe in Berlin-Treptow (the building burned to the ground in 1995). The event was called \u201cx Mal: Musik zur Zeit\u201d and was the mecca of the underground scene in the East. The \u201cIndependent Disco und Konzertreihe\u201d was begun in 1986 with Ronald Galenza at al. . Kai \u201cKaiman\u201d M\u00fcller (drums) and Kai \u201cCairo\u201d Reininghaus (voice and guitar) remember.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n

Why was this performance so important?<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

M\u00dcLLER<\/strong>: There are several reasons.\u00a0 At that time it was, of course, cool to play in Berlin. And from a later viewpoint: It was the only gig that has good recordings in terms of the sound quality. That\u2019s why we released a tape of it a shortly afterwards [By The Wall \u2013 The Real Deal Live] And the event series was really good.
REININGHAUS<\/strong>: I can\u2019t remember if we realized at the time what an important event the x Mal Musik zur Zeit was for the Indie scene\u2026
M\u00dcLLER<\/strong>: Well, if you just look on the Internet, it really wasn\u2019t. There was \u2013 of course \u2013 word-of-mouth advertising. People said this and that, but we were not so connected to that whole scene. Maybe we had heard about it on \u201cParocktikum\u201d [a music show by Lutz Schramm on the GDR Radio, that played indie music and dedicated itself especially to GDR-Underground music]. But that is just speculation today.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
